Explain how the Little Mix 'Black Magic' uses Media Language
In the video 'Black Magic' media language is used in many ways. For example mise-en-scene was used in the beginning of the video when the girls are seen as the stereotypical 'geeks', with glasses and nerdy ways, they are also treated very differently to the stereotypical 'popular' girls because they go unnoticed and are bullied. However this all changes when they get magic powers and make themselves more attractive with their bright red and white outfits it shows the sexy, fierce side of them aswell as white being the colour of perfection. It shows the power they now have as 'pretty popular' girls.
There are many close ups of the girls either as a group or solo, highlighting they are the most important in the video and it emphasises things such as their magic as that is our main focus. It also shows their importance at the end when the spotlight is solely on them creating a sense of superiority over their peers.
The fast pace of editing and quick shots establishes the genre pop. The shots are are cut to the beat of the music but also tell a story throughout. This makes the audience enjoy the song more and like the video better.

ReplyDeleteThis is a good response, however your last paragraph pulls your answer down!
You must make sure that you explain yourself as clearly as possible. What is the media language element being used (cinema, sound, editing or mise-en-scene: costumes, facial expressions, lighting, props, setting...) where is it evident and what is the effect?
Please reflect and perfect your last paragraph - Where is fast paced editing used? Provide an explicit example and explain in more detail WHY it's used. Does it make the audience feel involved? Does it match the action? Does it result in more views as audiences feel the need to rewatch it?
Darcie, this still needs reflecting and perfecting.
