Media industries and media audiences (FULL TEXT ADDITION)
LGBT
Amount of men vs women in Mojos pink floyd magazine:
Men: 377 Women:118
Ethnic minorities:
339- White 109- Ethnic minorities.
Is this a FAIR representation?
Yes as the majority of artists in the 'rock' genre are white, and this figure of ethnicities is representative of the amount of each ethnic group actively participating in this particular genre of music.
How does this representation link to the demographic?
The main photo on the front cover is an old photograph from the 1980's, this picture is edited dramatically to fit in with the style of their music and the peak of their music career. The technicolour background fits in with their genre of psychedelic rock, and the old photograph brings a sense of loyalty to their older target audience who may remember this from when they were younger.
How might audiences interpret the same magazines very differently and how might these differences reflect both social and individual differences?
The reflects the individual differences between men and women but enforces the fight of feminism that continues in todays society.
How many main advertisements are there throughout the magazine?
There are 67 advertisments throughout the magazine, many are in the beginning and end but barely any in the middle where the double page spreads are.
Are there a range of articles? What is the language being used?
There are a range of articles each inlclude formal language.
How are the musicians presented?
The musicians on the front cover are Pink Floyd and they are presented as very important people as they are the main focus of the cover and the image is of just their faces with no body, because they don't need any body it signifies their importance and how they are still recognised by their target audience because they are that popular. They are looking straight at the camera with a bit of a smirk, this allows the audience to feel a connection to them and make them buy the magazine. The light is mainly on them because they are the most important feature of the magazine and it really draws your attention because it gets a bit darker behind there heads so it highlights them out. The whole front cover is very colourful which can present Pink Floyd as accepting of everyone because of the pride colours.

Be careful with your audience interpretation question - we don't currently live in a patriarchal society. You'll need to rephrase this...
